The track system benefits horses in many ways

Reduces stress

The track system has been proven as a way to eliminate stress related behaviors like cribbing and pacing by giving the horse more space and mental stimulation.

The story of Equine sports therapist Alexa Linton's mare Diva is an example of this. Diva was “deeply stressed” in her small, private paddock, and this behavior made it “almost impossible to safely work with her or ride her.”  Linton eventually moved Diva and her other horse to another property and constructed a track system.  Both of her horses are now “happy, sound, and engaged” and their hooves get regular complements from their farrier.

Better for hoofs

Developed by a former farrier, the track system is designed with hoof health in mind.  The constant movement provides more natural wear on hooves than other systems of equine management.  The variety of footings helps strengthen hooves.

Improves fitness and conditioning

By constantly exercising the horses, a track system can reduce the risk of injury.  This increased fitness level also cuts down on warm up time.  The variety of terrain helps the horses become more sure footed and confident on different surfaces and footings.

A natural and enriching lifestyle

Track systems keep the horse's mind engaged.  The obstacles and terrain they have to navigate in order to access food and water mimic the movement patterns of horses in the wild while keeping the brain active.

Good for horses with health issues

Common health issues such as laminitis and obesity can be helped by putting the horse in the high exercise, low sugar track system.

Backed by research

In a study conducted by Hartpury University, the behavior patterns of a group of horses were monitored in both a track system and in traditional paddocks.  Both peer grazing and overall movement were increased in the track system, thus leading the researchers to conclude that the track system can “promote positive equine welfare by providing opportunity to consummate innately motivated grazing and foraging behaviours.”
